Monique Worrell claims imminent removal as Florida State Attorney
Monique Worrell, the State Attorney for Florida’s 9th Judicial Circuit, claims she received a tip that her removal from office by Governor Ron DeSantis is ‘imminent.’ Worrell stated that a caller informed her she would be replaced by an assistant statewide prosecutor who previously worked in her office.
Worrell defended her performance, citing crime statistics that show a decrease in violent crime, shootings, and burglaries in Orange and Osceola counties. She characterized the rumors as political interference that creates chaos within her office.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier stated he was unaware of any plans to remove Worrell. However, Uthmeier expressed criticism of her work, suggesting that any state attorney who does not align with his views on prosecution is guilty of ‘negligence’ and ‘gross incompetence.’
