Monitor technology trends show convergence of gaming and professional use
The monitor industry is seeing a convergence of technologies between gaming and professional productivity displays. Recent developments show that high-performance features once exclusive to gaming, such as OLED panels with instant pixel response, are becoming increasingly viable for office and creative work due to improvements in brightness and text clarity.
In the context of the 2026 La Razón Technology and Consumption Awards, three monitors have been nominated for Best Monitor of the Year: the LG UltraGear evo GX9, which focuses on large-format gaming; the AOC U32U3CV, designed for a balance of productivity and entertainment; and the MSI MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36, which emphasizes panoramic formats and OLED technology. The winner will be announced on October 28.
Other notable hardware includes the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM Gen3, a 4K QD-OLED monitor with a 240 Hz refresh rate and 1,000 nits peak brightness, positioned as a versatile tool for both gaming and color-accurate editing. Additionally, the ROG Strix XG32UCWMG utilizes WOLED technology to reach 1,300 nits in HDR.
