Monmouthshire approves flood strategy as Vietnam faces severe flooding

In Wales, Monmouthshire County Council has approved a new six-year local flood risk strategy following devastating flooding caused by Storm Claudia in November 2025. The plan divides the county into nine areas based on river catchments to manage risks from surface water, groundwater, and ordinary watercourses. While the strategy aims to improve coordination with Natural Resources Wales, officials have warned that the Welsh Government must increase funding for flood prevention to avoid repeating previous devastation.

In Vietnam, severe flooding has resulted in three deaths and significant property damage. Approximately 20,000 houses have been inundated, with over 5,000 homes in riverside and low-lying areas of Hanoi and Ninh Binh remaining flooded. Government leaders are directing proactive responses to manage the recovery efforts.
