Monmouthshire confirms support for Gwent-wide social care plan
Monmouthshire County Council has confirmed its support for establishing a Gwent-wide social care workforce development service. The decision follows a period of uncertainty after opposition councillors used “call in powers” to challenge a September cabinet agreement.
The new service will be hosted by Caerphilly Borough Council, which already maintains a partnership with Blaenau Gwent. The initiative aims to pool resources to manage increasingly complex registration and qualification requirements for social care staff. Cllr Ian Chandler noted that the move would not impact local service delivery or management, nor would it involve financial savings, as staff and funding will transfer to the new service.
