Monrovia Consolidated School System resumes classes after teacher dispute
The Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) has officially resumed academic activities following government commitments to address long-standing grievances from teachers. The dispute, which involved protests over employment status, salary disparities, and welfare concerns, had severely disrupted teaching and learning in Monrovia's public schools.
During a press briefing on October 27, 2026, MCSS Superintendent Dr. Augurie E. Stevens announced that the government has enrolled an additional 201 volunteer teachers onto the national payroll, bringing the total number of verified MCSS volunteer teachers formally enrolled to 409. Additionally, the government has initiated planned disbursements to cover outstanding salaries as part of the initial resolution package.
