Monsenhor Hipólito: Driver killed in truck rollover on PI-229

A 50-year-old driver, identified as Antônio José de Olinda Costa, died on Friday morning after his truck overturned on the PI-229 highway in the rural area of Monsenhor Hipólito, southern Piauí.

The white Volkswagen truck was traveling from Ceará and was loaded with bricks when it overturned on a curve in the Abatedouro village area. The driver was traveling alone and became trapped in the wreckage. Emergency responders from the Piauí Military Fire Department and the 4th Battalion of the Military Police were called to the scene to perform the extraction.

Preliminary investigations by the Military Police suggest the driver may have been traveling at a speed incompatible with the road conditions, as braking marks were found on the pavement. Captain André, commander of the 4th Battalion, noted that the curve is considered dangerous and the weight of the brick cargo may have contributed to the accident. Technical forensics were called to the site, and the body was transported to the Legal Medical Institute (IML).
