Monsoon rains forecast for Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and other Indian states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that the southwest monsoon is advancing faster than expected, bringing relief from scorching heat to northern India. Rain is forecast for Delhi on June 26‑27, with the possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds that could lower temperatures. The department also issued alerts for Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and the northeastern states, citing potential flooding in low‑lying areas.

In Uttar Pradesh, the monsoon is expected to arrive in the eastern districts on June 28, about eight days later than the usual schedule, and to persist intermittently for about a week. Heavy rain is also forecast for Himachal Pradesh (June 26‑30), Punjab (June 27‑28), Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand (June 27‑July 1). Central and western states such as Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan may see significant showers on June 25‑26. Officials advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay clear of open fields, trees and weak structures during the stormy periods.
