Monsoon rains trigger flood and landslide warnings in Nepal and Nagaland

Active monsoon conditions are bringing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to parts of Nepal and India.

In Nepal, the Meteorological Forecasting Division reports that monsoon winds are causing cloudy weather across the country. Heavy rain is expected in hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, with potential snowfall in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim. Authorities warn that heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, and soil erosion, impacting agriculture, transport, and daily life.

In India, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a forecast for active monsoon conditions from August 22 to 25. Several districts in Nagaland, including Mokokchung, Longleng, and Mon, are expected to see high cumulative rainfall. The forecast includes a high likelihood of localized thunderstorms and lightning across various districts throughout the period.
