Mont Blanc rescue: Two Polish climbers saved from granite spire

Two Polish climbers were rescued from the Mont Blanc massif after becoming stranded on the Dente del Gigante granite spire at an altitude of approximately 4,000 meters.

A 20-year-old man spent roughly 12 hours suspended from a rope in harsh weather conditions, including rain and wind. His 24-year-old climbing partner, who was secured to the rock nearby, alerted emergency services in Aosta around midnight.

Rescue efforts were initially delayed by heavy fog and poor weather, which prevented helicopter deployment during the night. Italian rescuers from the Aosta Valley mountain rescue and the Guardia di Finanza had to wait until dawn, eventually using a cable car to reach the area on foot.

A successful extraction was made possible by a brief window of improved weather, allowing a French high-mountain gendarmerie helicopter from Chamonix to reach the climbers. The 20-year-old man was transported to a hospital in good condition, while his partner was found in a state of exhaustion but was in good health and declined hospital transport.
