Monta Ellis hired as Alcorn State men's basketball general manager

Former NBA guard Monta Ellis, who played 12 seasons for the Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers and scored 14,858 career points, has been appointed general manager of the Alcorn State University men’s basketball program. Ellis said, “Today marks the beginning of an incredible new chapter, and I’m truly honored and excited to be named the General Manager for Men’s Basketball at Alcorn State University.”

In his new role he will oversee player evaluation, recruiting strategy, transfer portal decisions, NIL opportunities and alumni relations, serving as a mentor for the Braves. Athletic director D. Wayne Robinson added, “Monta Ellis brings a championship pedigree and a wealth of basketball knowledge to our program.” The hire comes as head coach Jake Morton enters his second year after a 9‑23 season, with the program hoping to improve its SWAC standing.

Ellis becomes the first former NBA star to hold a front‑office position at the Division I level for Alcorn State, aiming to help build the team into a championship contender.
