Montana faces heavy winter storms and significant snowfall
A significant winter storm is forecasted for much of central and southwest Montana, prompting weather warnings and municipal preparations. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings for the Rocky Mountain Front and the Continental Divide, where snow accumulations could reach 10 to 20 inches with wind gusts up to 45 mph. In the Great Falls area, officials expect between 5 and 10 inches of snow.
In Helena, the City Street Division is preparing for the season’s first major snowfall. Deputy Director of Transportation Chris Couey stated that crews are on standby and six plow trucks are ready for deployment. The city’s priority will be clearing emergency snow routes to ensure access for emergency services before moving into residential neighborhoods. Officials have urged drivers to exercise caution and slow down due to the abrupt change in weather conditions.
