Montana State University honors football championship tradition

Montana State University will honor a long-standing athletic tradition during its Gold Rush game, as members of the 1976 and 1984 national championship football squads present a historic letter sweater to the 2025 championship team.

The sweater was originally gifted by Bobcat legend Max Worthington, a member of the 1929 Golden Bobcats national championship team, to the 1976 team captains Bert Markovich and Tim Nixon. Following a tradition established decades ago, the sweater is passed down to subsequent national championship winners.

Six members of the 2025 squad—captains Paul Brott, Kenneth Eiden IV, and JT Reed, along with Julius Davis, Hunter Parsons, and Alec Eckert—will receive the monogrammed sweater. The garment is intended to reside permanently in the Bobcat football locker room as a symbol of pride and loyalty.
