Montana teen Jory Thomas saves man from drowning in Yellowstone River

On the weekend of July 4, 2026 a 14‑year‑old Montana ranch kid, Jory Thomas, was camping near Greycliff when a raft and paddleboard struck a bridge pillar on the Yellowstone River, tossing four people into the fast‑moving water. Three reached shore, but one man continued drifting downstream, clinging to a cooler and calling for help.

Thomas, who had been practicing roping on a dummy for cattle brandings, grabbed his 12‑foot lariat, looped it around the struggling man and pulled him to safety.
