Montanha police arrest suspect in fatal shooting of school bus monitor

A 40-year-old school bus monitor, Janety Alves, was shot and killed inside her apartment in the Cypreste neighborhood of Montanha, Espírito Santo, on Thursday night. Witnesses reported hearing an intense argument and cries for help shortly before a gunshot was heard.

Following an investigation, a 19-year-old man, who had been in a relationship with the victim for approximately three months, surrendered to the Montanha Police Station on Friday. While the suspect admitted to firing the shot, he claimed the discharge was accidental. However, authorities are treating the case as a feminicide.

Police Delegate Waldir Marins noted that the suspect has a prior criminal record for domestic violence. The suspect has been taken into custody and will be transferred to the Centro de Detenção Provisória.
