Montblanc requests Google Maps stop routing traffic through town center

The Montblanc City Council has requested that Google Maps stop recommending the town center as an alternative route for drivers attempting to avoid traffic congestion on the N-240 and AP-2 highways.

Major delays occur on Fridays and Sundays, particularly during summer. Drivers attempting to bypass long queues at the 'Rifacli' roundabout often enter the urban center, causing local gridlock. Mayor Marc Vinya noted that this detour is ineffective, as weekend traffic signage often forces these drivers to turn back and rejoin the original queue.

The municipality has asked the Catalan Transit Service to coordinate with Google Maps to implement warnings or incident notifications for the area. Additional complicating factors include roadwork and the placement of cones by state road authorities that have reduced lane capacity near the AP-2 exit.
