Montceau-les-Mines high school protest turns violent

On Friday, October 2, a demonstration by students at Henri-Parriat High School in Montceau-les-Mines turned violent. While students gathered to protest issues such as overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages, exhausting schedules, and anxieties regarding the Parcoursup orientation system, the event was disrupted by external individuals.

Reports indicate that groups dressed in black engaged in property damage, including burning trash bins, throwing projectiles, and using mortars. Police eventually intervened with tear gas, resulting in at least one arrest. Students expressed regret over the direction the gathering took, distinguishing their peaceful demands from the actions of the individuals involved in the unrest.

The current wave of student and high school mobilizations reflects long-standing grievances regarding educational conditions, including building degradation and precarious academic environments.
