Two cyclists, 25-year-old Robert Garcia Umanzor and 30-year-old Rumor Ortiz, were killed during a Halloween-themed bike ride in Montclair, California. The incident occurred around 10:39 p.m. on Saturday as a group of approximately 30 cyclists was riding east on Kingsley Street near Tudor Avenue.

Authorities identified 38-year-old Valentin Alberto Rodriguez as the driver who allegedly struck the group and fled the scene. Investigators report that Rodriguez allegedly dragged one victim for a significant distance before returning home, where he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run.

A candlelight vigil was held on Monday at the crash site, attended by approximately 100 community members, friends, and family. The tragedy has prompted local activists and cycling advocates to call for increased roadway safety and stronger protections for vulnerable road users, including cyclists and pedestrians.
