Monte Canin hiking trail closed for repairs due to erosion
A popular hiking trail at Monte Canin in the Friaul-Julisch Venetien region of Italy is undergoing mandatory repairs due to damage caused by heavy tourist traffic. The Prealpi Giulie Nature Park has announced the closure of the section between Rifugio Gilberti and Sella Bila Pec to facilitate maintenance.
According to Giulio Goi, head of the nature park, the deterioration is largely due to hikers deviating from marked paths to create unofficial shortcuts, which has significantly increased soil erosion. The affected area is also an alpine botanical educational path, and officials report that the increased foot traffic is negatively impacting the growth and distribution of rare plant species.
