Monte dei Paschi di Siena faces decisive week amid union protests

Labor unions CGIL, CISL, and UIL have organized a sit-in in Siena on October 29 at 9:30 a.m. in front of the Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) headquarters. The demonstration, titled “Monte dei Paschi è Siena!”, coincides with a shareholders' meeting to vote on the current governance's industrial project.

The unions are demanding guarantees for employment, the maintenance of management functions, and the integrity of the banking group. They emphasized that MPS is a fundamental component of the local economic and social system, affecting both direct employees and banking services in smaller municipalities.

This mobilization follows a period of tension between the MPS Foundation, bank executives, and major shareholders. While the Foundation's General Delegation recently approved the current industrial project to safeguard strategic independence and local employment, the possibility of external extraordinary operations remains open if the shareholders' assembly rejects the current plan.
