The decision comes ahead of the shareholder assembly scheduled for October 29, 2026. The foundation stated that while it prioritizes the current plan to safeguard employment and local social profiles, it remains open to considering extraordinary operations from external parties only if shareholders reject the current industrial project.

This internal move follows political tension, with the Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) calling for the immediate resignation of Foundation President Riccardo Coppini. The M5S criticized Coppini for his perceived openness to an acquisition by Intesa Sanpaolo, which they argue lacks sufficient guarantees for the territory of Siena.
