Monte dei Paschi di Siena reviews merger offers from Banco BPM and Intesa Sanpaolo
The board of directors of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) met on June 8 under Chairman Cesare Bisoni and formally acknowledged receipt of a non‑solicited merger proposal from Banco BPM and an unsolicited public takeover offer from Intesa Sanpaolo, as required by Italian securities law. MPS said it will evaluate both proposals in compliance with regulations, with financial advisors UBS Europe and BofA Securities and legal counsel BonelliErede and White & Case. The bank also confirmed that integration activities with Mediobanca remain on schedule.
The meeting highlights ongoing consolidation activity in Italy’s banking sector, though no decision has been announced yet.
