Monte Faito hydrogeological risk mitigation begins in Campania
Local branches of the Movimento 5 Stelle in Castellammare di Stabia and Vico Equense have announced progress regarding the hydrogeological instability of Monte Faito. Following a technical meeting convened by the Prefect of Naples, a schedule for interventions has been established.
Funding of 10 million euros is available for the restoration of four riverbeds, with the Municipality of Castellammare preparing to issue a tender. Urgent work has also begun on the Rivo Scurorillo. Additional funding has been requested from the Campania Region to address three other riverbeds and to restore the Castellammare-Monte Faito road, which has been closed for over twenty years.
Furthermore, the Carabinieri Forestali in Naples have committed to increasing patrols in the area to combat environmental degradation and potential organized crime infiltration. Local representatives emphasized the urgency of these measures to prevent future landslides and protect local chestnut production.
