Monte Faito safety measures announced following landslides and animal encounters

Authorities in the Naples region are implementing safety measures for Monte Faito following recent landslides and incidents involving roaming animals. During a meeting coordinated by the Naples Prefecture, officials addressed both hydrogeological stability and hiker safety.

To mitigate landslide risks, 10 million euros from 2010 CIPE funds have been allocated for the stabilization of torrent beds, including the Foiano, Scuselle al Cognulo, Visanola, and Piazza Grande streams. The municipality of Castellammare di Stabia has already begun urgent interventions, such as clearing sediment and debris from the Scuro stream.

Regarding public safety on mountain trails, local municipalities including Agerola, Casola, and Vico Equense are revising ordinances to manage roaming livestock and Maremma sheepdogs. New measures include prohibiting grazing in tourist areas and establishing municipal shelters for animals without microchips to facilitate safe medical inspections by local health authorities.
