Monte Generoso rescue: family saved after wild horse attack

A family of three, including a seven-year-old child, was rescued from Monte Generoso after being surrounded by a herd of wild horses during a hiking excursion.

Preliminary reports suggest the animals were startled by the noise of a trial motorcycle passing through the area on an off-road route. The agitated herd targeted the family's dog, biting and trampling it. While the family members remained uninjured, they were unable to move safely due to the presence of the animals.

The Vigili del Fuoco (Firefighters) coordinated a rescue operation involving the Drago 153 helicopter and specialized Speleo-Alpino-Fluviale (SAF) teams from Como. The helicopter airlifted the family and the dog to a secure location, where ground teams took over to escort them back to their vehicle. The injured dog was subsequently taken for veterinary care.
