Monte Grimano Terme identified as Italy's least photographed village

A new study conducted by MPB, in conjunction with the Cortona On The Move 2026 photography festival, has identified 15 Italian villages that possess minimal digital presence. The research analyzed 381 locations from the ‘I Borghi più belli d’Italia’ circuit by cross-referencing Google search volumes with photographic data from Wikimedia Commons and Flickr.

Monte Grimano Terme, located in the Marche region, was identified as the least visible village online, receiving a score of 79.5 out of 100. The study noted that the village has almost no geolocated images on Wikimedia or Flickr and receives only approximately 100 monthly Google searches globally.

Other villages with low digital visibility include Aiello Calabro in Calabria and Castelponzone in Lombardy, both of which tied with a score of 79.2. The research aims to highlight historic locations that remain largely undocumented in the digital landscape despite their architectural and cultural value.
