Monte Hermoso and Pehuen Co hit by coastal flooding and storms

Strong winds and high tides caused significant coastal flooding in Monte Hermoso and Pehuen Co, Argentina. An orange alert issued by the National Meteorological Service led to the suspension of educational, sporting, and cultural activities in the district.

The storm caused the sea to advance onto urban streets, in some areas reaching up to 50 meters inland. Damage was reported to beach infrastructure, including wooden walkways and lifeguard stations. Mayor Hernán Arranz noted that the coastline remains vulnerable due to the loss of natural sand barriers during a previous cyclogenesis event.

Local authorities are currently assessing the damage to the coastal front and evaluating the need for new infrastructure to protect the urban area, particularly the low-lying 600-meter sector in front of the town center.
