NeoTerra Group seeks $5M U.S. grant for Mozambique fluorspar expansion
NeoTerra Group, a British mining company, has applied for a $5 million grant from the US-Africa Strategic Investment Program to expand its fluorspar project at Monte Muambe in Mozambique.
The funding is intended to support additional drilling aimed at increasing the estimated calcium fluoride (CaF2) resource from 716,000 tons to 4 million tons. If approved, the project could expand beyond its current planned capacity of 50,000 tons per year. The proposal also includes a study of regional and international fluorspar markets and a feasibility study for establishing a hydrofluoric acid production facility within Mozambique to add industrial value to the raw mineral extraction.
This application follows previous U.S. support for the Monte Muambe site, which has also been the subject of studies regarding rare earths and graphite. The initiative aligns with U.S. efforts to secure critical mineral supply chains and reduce import dependency for minerals essential to the chemical, steel, and nuclear industries.
