Monte Pellegrino prepares for religious climb and cultural tours

Monte Pellegrino in Palermo is preparing for the upcoming Acchianata, a traditional religious event where devotees climb the Scala Vecchia to reach the Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia during the night of September 3-4. Recent reports indicate the four-kilometer mountain path has suffered from neglect, with significant overgrowth of weeds and willow branches obstructing the road. In response, Palermo's Councilor for Greenery, Pietro Alongi, stated that maintenance interventions are scheduled to ensure the path is ready for the event.

In a separate cultural initiative, BCsicilia is organizing a historical and naturalistic visit to the mountain on August 29, 2026, as part of the 'Le Notti di BCsicilia' program. The free guided tour will explore the geological formations, caves, and biodiversity of the area, highlighting its historical significance from prehistoric times to the present day.
