Monte Pergola Tunnel Reopens While Seminario Tunnel Set for 270-Day Closure in Italy

After five years of construction, the Monte Pergola tunnel on the Avellino‑Salerno highway was reopened to traffic on 1 August, restoring its original two‑lane configuration. The reopening was praised by infrastructure sub‑secretary Tullio Ferrante and Solofra mayor Nicola Moretti, but councilor Antonello D’Urso warned that the work is only half finished and that further delays will continue to affect commuters and the local economy.

Separately, ANAS announced that the 2.5‑km Seminario tunnel on state road 63 in the Reggio Emilia province will be closed for fire‑safety upgrades. The closure will begin on 7 August and last 270 days, with traffic expected to resume on 30 April 2027. Mayors Giuseppe Ruggiha of Carpineti and Emanuele Ferrari of Castelnovo Monti highlighted the inconvenience for daily commuters and tourism in the Apennine region, while urging residents to endure the disruption.
