Torre del Greco faces waste collection emergency due to fuel costs

The municipality of Torre del Greco has declared a waste collection emergency following protests by transport workers over rising fuel costs. Local authorities report that approximately 30% of non-recyclable waste remained uncollected on Tuesday night, October 20.

Mayor Luigi Mennella and Deputy Mayor Michele Polese have issued an urgent appeal to citizens to limit the disposal of differentiated waste to the absolute minimum until the situation stabilizes. The crisis is part of a broader trend across Southern Italy, with Anci Campania warning that prolonged disruptions could compromise door-to-door collection services, particularly for organic waste.

Similar risks have been noted in other municipalities, where some have already been forced to temporarily close ecological islands and municipal collection centers due to difficulties in waste removal and transport.
