Montecassino Abbey announces historical and religious events

Montecassino Abbey has announced three significant events scheduled for early October, focusing on history, faith, and unique architectural access.

On October 1, the Abbey will celebrate the solemnity of the Basilica's dedication. This date commemorates the consecration of Pope Alexander II in 1071. The tradition was maintained by Pope Paul VI when he reconsecrated the basilica in 1964 following its destruction during World War II. Abbot Dom Luca Fallica noted that the event aims to strengthen spiritual ties with local Christian communities.

On October 4, the Abbey will host the extraordinary opening of the Loggia del Paradiso, offering visitors a rare look at the monastic architecture. Additionally, a historical reenactment will take place in the Bramante Cloister, depicting the meeting between Saint Benedict and King Totila.
