Montecristo Island offers limited access to protected Italian wilderness
Montecristo Island, located in the Tyrrhenian Sea between the Italian Peninsula and Corsica, is recognized as one of Italy’s most inaccessible islands. Due to its status as a strict nature reserve, access is highly limited and requires reservations months in advance.
The island is a key component of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve ‘Tuscan Islands’, and the Pelagos marine sanctuary, which focuses on the protection of marine mammals. Visitors to the area can experience untouched landscapes and diverse wildlife, though strict regulations are in place, including prohibitions on certain beach activities.
