Montecucco wine harvest sees production drop due to drought

The Montecucco Doc and Docg grape harvest has concluded with high-quality grapes despite a summer characterized by prolonged drought and repeated heatwaves. While the fruit remains healthy, production has seen an average decline of between 10% and 15% compared to 2025.

Climate conditions led to an accelerated ripening cycle, causing the harvest to occur approximately 15 days earlier than usual. The lack of significant rainfall from early June to August 20, combined with five heatwaves, resulted in a water deficit estimated between 80 and 100 millimeters.

The harvest covered several territories in the Grosseto province, including Cinigiano, Seggiano, Castel del Piano, Civitella Paganico, Arcidosso, and Roccalbegna, spanning the slopes of Monte Amiata and the Maremma Toscana. White grape harvesting began in mid-August, followed by red grapes toward the end of the month.
