Montefalco's Fuga del Bove festival showcases drum and flag competition and new commemorative book

Each year on August 12 the medieval town of Montefalco in Umbria hosts the drum and flag competition in the Piazza del Comune, where the four historic quarters—Sant’Agostino, San Bartolomeo, San Fortunato and San Francesco—vie for the Falco d’Oro prize. The event opens the week‑long Fuga del Bove historic reenactment, featuring a Renaissance parade, traditional games and the final Corsa dei Bovi.

A new illustrated volume by journalist Gilberto Scalabrini, commissioned by the Ente Fuga del Bove, documents more than fifty years of the festival. The book compiles photographs, archival documents and testimonies from volunteers, detailing the evolution of the celebration and the community’s role in preserving the tradition. It is published in a large format and sold at the Ente’s office in Montefalco.
