Montegiorgio hosts 47th World Tourism Day
Montegiorgio, located in the Marche region of Italy, hosted the 47th edition of World Tourism Day. The event focused on the area's historical, artistic, and spiritual heritage, specifically highlighting the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi.
The celebrations emphasized the town's connection to the Franciscan tradition through Frate Ugolino Boniscambi, the author of the Latin text 'Actus Beati Francisci et sociorum eius,' which later became the famous 'Fioretti di San Francesco.'
Activities included a historical-artistic guided tour of the town center, a book presentation titled 'Il mondo dei Fioretti, Frate Francesco i suoi compagni e la Marca d’Ancona,' and a dedicated concert. To promote slow tourism, participants engaged in a 10-kilometer trek and a cycling route from Montegiorgio to Mogliano, visiting local cultural landmarks such as the Church of Santa Colomba.
