Montemaggiore Belsito to host urbanistic walk regarding 1851 landslide

As part of the ‘Le Notti di BCsicilia’ event, an urbanistic walk titled ‘The Terrible Enemy’ will take place in Montemaggiore Belsito on August 18, 2026. The event is scheduled to begin at 21:00 in Piazza Roma.

The guided tour, led by Professor Riccardo Siragusa following a presentation by BCsicilia Regional President Alfonso Lo Cascio, focuses on the historical impact of a massive landslide that occurred on March 14, 1851. Triggered by heavy rainfall, the landslide from Monte Roccellito fundamentally altered the town's urban structure, destroying the most noble district and many significant buildings.

The walking route will start at the Church of the SS. Crocifisso, which was spared from the disaster, and wind through the streets of the town to explore the historical, cultural, and identity-related traces left by the event.
