Montemor-o-Novo hosts South Indian ceramic sculpture exhibition

The Galeria Municipal de Montemor-o-Novo in the Évora district has opened the exhibition “Deuses da Terra. Escultura Velar” (Gods of Earth. Velar Sculpture). The showcase is the result of a research project focused on ceramic sculpture from southern India.

The exhibition features the work of Velar artisans, specifically Palanisamy, Meyyar, and Karthik. Curated by João Rolaça, the project was developed through the Oficinas do Convento project in partnership with the Museu do Oriente. The exhibition is open to the public with free admission and is scheduled to run until October 31, 2026.
