Montemor-o-Novo opens new daycare center for 42 children

A new daycare center managed by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Montemor-o-Novo is scheduled to open on September 1, providing care for 42 children. The facility was created by adapting a building previously used as a senior day center.

The project involved a total investment of approximately 420,000 euros, with 195,000 euros funded through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The remaining costs were covered by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia. The inauguration was attended by the Secretary of State for Social Action and Inclusion, Clara Marques Mendes.

Despite the new capacity, demand remains high. The institution received approximately 100 applications for the 42 available spots, leaving 58 children on a waiting list. Local officials noted that the facility is essential for helping families balance professional and family life, though the current building's capacity cannot be expanded due to existing legislation.
