Montenegrin Crime Figure Vuk Vulević Placed in Extradition Detention in Belgrade

A judge of the Higher Court in Belgrade ordered an extradition detention for Montenegrin citizen Vuk Vulević after he was arrested in a Belgrade restaurant. The detention, based on an Interpol warrant issued by Podgorica, can last up to one year pending a decision on his surrender to Montenegro and will be reviewed every two months. Authorities say Vulević is a leader of a criminal group from Berane that cooperates with the Kavač clan headed by Radoje Zvicer, and he is suspected of involvement in the international smuggling of about 2.5 tonnes of cocaine. The Interpol notice also cites charges of organized crime, illegal drug production, possession and trafficking, as well as prior convictions for illegal weapons possession and document falsification. Police confiscated two mobile phones and forged identity documents from Vulević. The detention decision may be appealed within three days.
