Montenegro President Milatović visits Poland to strengthen ties
Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović conducted an official visit to Poland, meeting with Polish President Karol Nawrocki and the Montenegrin diaspora in Warsaw. During his visit, Milatović emphasized the deep historical, cultural, and political bonds between Montenegro and Poland, noting that both nations are allies within NATO and share a commitment to European security.
Milatović highlighted Poland as a model for economic development through European integration. He expressed his ambition for Montenegro to join the European Union by 2028, stating that EU membership will create new opportunities for cooperation between universities, businesses, and citizens of both countries. He also discussed the potential of the Montenegrin diaspora, suggesting the need for mechanisms like diaspora bonds to connect professionals abroad with the development of their homeland.
Separately, the European Union has signaled that Montenegro must intensify efforts to combat undeclared work. Following the closing of Chapter 19 regarding social policy and employment, Brussels emphasized the need for increased labor inspections, better training for inspectors, and stronger protections for seasonal and foreign workers to curb the shadow economy.
