Montenegrin fishermen face unresolved infrastructure issues
Fishermen in Montenegro are facing significant infrastructural and institutional challenges that threaten the viability of commercial fishing. A primary concern is the status of the Lazure port, which is designated as a fishing port in official documents and contains 106 berths, yet remains unresolved in practice.
Savo Ćetković, a representative of the National Association of Fish Producers, stated that these issues exist only on paper and that no concrete steps are being taken to address them. While agreements may exist between the state and relevant authorities, the practical benefits for fishermen have not materialized.
A working group meeting intended to address these fishery issues was postponed from September 10 due to member availability. As fishermen seek temporary solutions, there are concerns that inadequate working conditions may force many to abandon the industry.
