Montenegrin municipalities implement new communal service pricing

Municipalities in Montenegro are implementing new pricing methodologies for communal services, leading to increased costs for citizens. In Podgorica, the utility company ‘Čistoća’ has applied a new price list where waste collection and transport costs for households increased by 33 percent, rising from nine to 12 cents per square meter. The company attributed this hike to rising operational costs, including fuel, vehicle maintenance, and increased wages.

In Ulcinj, Arian Murati of the Civil Movement URA has raised concerns regarding billing irregularities. He claims that residents were charged the full monthly rate under the new price list for June, despite the new regulations only taking effect on June 13. Murati argued that a proportional calculation should have been applied for the period between June 1 and June 12 and has called on citizens to seek legal recourse to protect their budgets.
