Montenegrin NGOs launch initiatives for disability rights and social protection
Non-governmental organizations in Montenegro are launching initiatives to improve social protection and legal awareness for persons with disabilities.
The Organization of the Blind for Bar and Ulcinj held a concluding conference regarding the project ‘Improving Independent Living for Persons with Disabilities’. The event addressed issues such as discrimination in social protection, the need for adequate living standards, and the importance of social integration. Participants included representatives from social work centers, local municipalities, and the NGO sector.
Additionally, the Association of Multiple Sclerosis of Montenegro released a ‘Guide for Persons with Disabilities’ following its ‘My Right, My Strength’ project. Supported by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Family and Demographics, the project included legal-educational workshops in Bar, Berane, Podgorica, and Pljevlja. The guide covers topics such as disability assessment laws, one-time assistance, personal disability benefits, and tax exemptions for imported vehicles. The association noted that social benefit amounts are determined by local self-government policies and vary by municipality.
