Montenegrin prosecutors investigate football match-fixing allegations

The state prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into suspected match-fixing and betting scandals in Montenegrin football following a report by the Football Association of Montenegro (FSCG). The inquiry specifically focuses on the Jezero vs. Arsenal match held on September 5, which ended in a 5-2 victory for Jezero.

Witness Šofranac testified that he received messages prior to the match indicating it would be fixed. He noted suspicious betting patterns, specifically a high-odds outcome for four goals in the first half, and observed that the starting goalkeeper for Jezero was replaced by a player who had not previously played any minutes. Following his public allegations, Šofranac reported receiving threats and facing a media campaign.

In Tivat, Ćazim Lisičić of the European Alliance stated that the investigation validates long-standing warnings regarding the club. Lisičić has called for greater transparency in FK Arsenal's financial operations, requesting access to supplier and bank records from 2021 to 2025. He urged the Tivat Municipality to ensure that future funding is contingent upon independent audits and strict oversight of how club funds are spent.
