Montenegro: 63% of citizens provided financial aid in 2025

According to the 2026 World Giving Report by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), approximately 63 percent of Montenegrin citizens provided financial assistance to others in 2025. This participation rate is notable as the total level of giving, across three measured categories, exceeds the European average.

In Montenegro, the most common form of financial contribution was direct assistance to individuals in need, provided by 45 percent of the population. This was followed by donations to charitable organizations at 36 percent, and religious giving at 24 percent. On average, Montenegrin citizens allocated 1.1 percent of their income to these three forms of giving.

This pattern differs from the European average, where donating to charitable organizations is the most frequent method (38 percent), compared to direct assistance to individuals (26 percent) and religious giving (14 percent).
