Montenegro accelerates EU accession with European Parliament address and post‑monitoring talks

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović met with Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe's rapporteur Ljiljana Tangi, emphasizing Montenegro's intensive reform agenda and its goal of full EU membership by the end of 2028. He noted the European Commission's positive 2025 report that named Montenegro the most advanced candidate, the continued closure of negotiation chapters in 2026, and said concluding the post‑monitoring process will further strengthen the country's international standing ahead of its upcoming Council of Europe chairmanship.

President Jakov Milatović will address the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 16 June, at the invitation of EP President Roberta Metsola. The speech follows the EU‑Western Balkans summit in Tirana and will present Montenegro's integration achievements, outline its vision for the final phase of accession talks, and seek stronger political support from EU lawmakers.
