Montenegro advances green policies and sustainable finance
Montenegro is marking 35 years since its declaration as an ecological state by focusing on sustainable development and green economic policies. The Association of Municipalities of Montenegro is developing a feasibility study to connect resource management with local policies, aiming to brand regions as bio-eco destinations to boost health tourism and EU market competitiveness.
Simultaneously, the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) is integrating sustainability into the financial sector. Governor Irena Radović emphasized that climate risks are increasingly becoming financial risks, necessitating their inclusion in risk assessment and financial system planning. The CBCG has received the international Zero Waste Business certificate and is implementing a roadmap for the Montenegrin financial sector toward sustainable finance for the 2025–2028 period.
