Montenegro reports 544 million euros in foreign investment

Montenegro foreign direct investment EU accession Wizz Air energy transition

At the EU-Montenegro Investment Conference (AIM 2026) in Herceg Novi, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić announced that Montenegro attracted 544 million euros in foreign direct investment during the first seven months of the year. More than half of these funds were directed toward the real estate sector.

Spajić highlighted the successful implementation of previous agreements, citing Wizz Air as a key example. Following a memorandum signed last year, the airline established a base at Podgorica Airport, launching 17 new European routes and creating over 700 related jobs. The Prime Minister noted that the country has already launched 14 partnership projects, adopted 10 memorandums, and presented four strategic investment partnerships.

European Commission official Gert Jan Kopman stated that Montenegro has made unprecedented progress toward EU accession, noting that completing negotiations by the end of the year is a realistic goal.

In separate diplomatic efforts, Montenegro is seeking to strengthen energy cooperation with France. Energy Minister Admir Šahmanović met with French Ambassador Cécile Imber-Bouvier to discuss accelerating renewable energy projects, including a 25 million euro agreement between the Montenegrin electricity transmission system (CGES) and the French Development Agency (AFD) for substation modernization.
