Montenegro and Spain sign healthcare cooperation memorandum
Montenegro and Spain have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to strengthen ties in the healthcare sector. The agreement was finalized during a bilateral meeting held at the Permanent Mission of Montenegro to the United Nations in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
Montenegrin Health Minister Vojislav Šimun and Spanish Health Minister Mónica García Gómez met to discuss the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices in key areas of health policy. The cooperation will focus on strengthening primary healthcare, advancing digital health, reducing waiting lists, and ensuring the sustainable financing of healthcare systems.
Minister Šimun highlighted Montenegro’s ongoing reforms, including the transition to a budget-based healthcare financing model and the digital transformation of the health system. Minister García expressed Spain’s readiness to share expertise in primary care and digital health, noting these are central to Spain’s own development goals. Additionally, discussions included projects to improve central sterilization systems in Montenegrin health institutions through the involvement of Spanish companies.
