Montenegro and United States Sign Economic Cooperation Memorandum

Montenegro and the United States marked the United States' 250th independence anniversary by reinforcing their strategic partnership. Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj highlighted shared democratic values and NATO ties, and announced the signing of a Memorandum of Economic Cooperation in Washington at the end of 2024.

The memorandum establishes a framework for increased trade, investment, and collaboration in areas such as digitalisation, cyber‑security, renewable energy, infrastructure, tourism and new technologies. It also paves the way for a forthcoming inter‑governmental (G2G) agreement aimed at attracting U.S. companies to invest in Montenegro, which is a NATO member and EU accession candidate. Montenegro’s participation in the Blue Dot Network was cited as a signal of commitment to high‑quality, transparent infrastructure projects.

Gjeloshaj urged U.S. firms to view Montenegro as a stable, reliable partner, emphasizing the role of the Montenegrin diaspora in the United States as a bridge for knowledge and business connections.
